The historic Knitting Factory in New York has been in operation since 1987, originating as a jazz and art space featuring independent and unique artists from jazz to alternative. It has a rich history that has enabled it to expand to the 700 person capacity, full 3 stage venue that it is today. Its full bars and complete suite of modern technology sound and video equipment has made it a perfect host for the ever growing Drop Dead Festival. On Saturday and Sunday during the day, music videos and movies will be screening, available for people to hang out in anticipation of the evenings festivities.

The atmosphere, especially thanks to the efforts of the Drop Dead decorations squad, is perfect. The Knitting Factory although completely renovated and modernized, still retains the dark, mysterious vibe of a 1980s art space. Wood floors and classic style bars and decor, plenty of nostalgia posted on the walls exude authenticity.

The main stage (during festival hours, referred to as the "Tikki Cannibal Floor") with its VIP balcony is where the headliners will perform. There are multiple bars throughout the building. Downstairs is a more intimate stage (again, re-dubbed for the festival "Dr. Caligari Floor"), where Drop Dead 2004's surprise, combined bill of Ausgang and Cinema Strange took away the prize for best show of the year in my book. It was packed by ecstatic dancers and batcave music lovers in a raging frenzy. The cavernous, but claustrophobic downstairs bar ("6 Feet Under Dance Club") hosting the dance parties has just the right atmosphere for a batcave party.

The props team takes care that there are plenty of blood splattered sheets, torn fabric draped over every available surface. There are body parts strewn about, and relics from forgotten tombs, mad scientist laboratories and B-movie horror sets to keep your eyes busy whilst traversing the at first labyrinthine corridors of the venue. All this transforms the already impressive Knitting Factory into a real theme park of horror in the spirit of the festival. Now coinciding with the Halloween holiday, it makes for the end-all be-all of Halloween parties.
