2009 OFFICIAL PODCAST:

Nonbeliever wrote:
The AAC encoded files support a few extra features than the MP3 files such as "chapters" (which allow you to jump to each song), album artwork and links to the bands, if played in iTunes. I've also included links to the MP3 files in case anybody prefers that.

AAC links
Part 1 http://www.sendspace.com/file/qxiv80
Part 2 http://www.sendspace.com/file/sqh5oz

MP3 links
Part 1 http://www.sendspace.com/file/g0xd89
Part 2 http://www.sendspace.com/file/35mmkc

Also available at http://www.darkmusicproject.com as AAC files.

NOTES:

KASMs

- The album "Spayed" was released in 2009, not 2000 as mentioned in the podcast.

Made in Poland

- The track in the podcast is called "Ball in the Wood" and not "Ball."

Plastique Noir - "Dead Pop"

- This album was accidentally nominated for '09 even though it was released in '08. (Considering that this album was nominated last year, I have no idea how but we did overlook this mistake.) The discogs.com entry (http://www.discogs.com/Plastique-Noir-D ... se/1826983) said album was released in '09. This is incorrect and the album is disqualified from the nominations.

SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT

I voted for Zola Jesus before I saw that Grave Babies had been added, is there any way to undo my vote?

We have some great newcomers: (((S))), Escarlatina Obsessiva, Grave Babies, Talk Normal (digging those guys more and more)...

What is your favorite new band this year?

My fave is Grave Babies. But I swear to God, if Cemetary Girlz wins, I will fucking cry.

Post subject:  Re: 2009 Album of the Year Voting - READ POST BEFORE VOTING

Why? The Girlz' album was great. I'm actually surprised that Murnau's Playhouse got three votes already.

For newcomer though, I'm actually torn between (((S))), Grave Babies, and Talk Normal.

FYI GUYS: Check out the Grave Babies' album right here -- http://www.viceland.com/music/2010/01/g ... to-fights/

I didn't hate it, but for something that unremarkable to win in a year with so many incredible new bands would be kind of a shame.

Post subject:  Re: 2009 Album of the Year Voting - READ POST BEFORE VOTING

Eh, I wouldn't call it totally unremarkable in comparison to this really great roster of new bands. Being conventional is certainly not the mark of a lower quality or creatively stagnant, technically inferior or less enjoyable album, but that's just my opinion. To be quite honest I was considering very long and hard on whether I was going to vote for FOF or Grave Babies, but I enjoyed the Girlz just too much. As they say with 2girls1cup, it's a matter of taste.

I would like to issue a newcomer of the year award. This would be an award only for the best band that formed in '09 (or right before '09 like December '08), who first performed in '09, or who released their first album in '09. I am correct that Grave Babies debuted in '09?

To all: What other bands debuted in '09?

Edit: Looks like Murnau's Playhouse is right now in the lead. Color me pleasantly surprised.

As for Cemetary Girlz, I'm up there with Captain Cannibal - it's not like I don't like it, it's good, and if Alien S. reads this, you've done great job, but I don't think it deserves album of the year, and I don't get why it got so much attention - it sounds good, but.. yeah, conventional, I guess, nothing special..

Christ vs. Warhol, Crimson Muddle (I think?), Grotesque Sexuality, Los Carniceros Del Norte (not sure), SOCIOPHOBIA.. do Readership Hostile count?

Post subject:  Re: 2009 Album of the Year Voting - READ POST BEFORE VOTING

Errr, let me rephrase, what nominees debuted last year, by debut meaning they either formed, released and album, or first performed in 2009. One of those will get the 'band of the year' award.

Still good point, what other bands that debuted recently (2009-2010) which you guys would like to see get some more in-depth coverage on?

We already covered Christ vs. Warhol and Los Carniceros came out two years ago I think. Don't see why Readership Hostile doesn't count, their first performance was at RTB in Feb '09.

To all: Who did you vote for?

Seriously, NO votes for The Spoils? I almost regret giving Grave Babies my vote, if it's going to mean Zola Jesus get NONE. I mean what the fuck.

I'm having a hard time voting. So many strong releases. But I'm really liking Made In Poland. Anyone else?
