I'm in a lists mood, and so I'd like to see what we can whip up for our favorite under appreciated bands and or albums. What are the rules? Well the band may have released demos, LPs, or two albums, but no more. Yes the band may still be together or active. The bands should be goth, deathrock, post-punk, darkwave, real coldwave, NDW/ new wave, or real industrial, but please no irrelevant bands/ posts or your message will be deleted. You can just list your favorite obscure band with no particular album, LP, or whatever.

Person with the most obscure list wins. heh.

1. Experimental Products - Prototype
Great 80s new wave.

2. Look Back in Anger - Caprice\ Flowers
Powerful gothic rock with wonderful female vocals. Love this band and would like to know more about them.

3. Lost Loved Ones - Lost Loved Ones
UK(?) post-punk with some catchy tunes. Videos on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FgZKuR2 ... L&index=18

4. O T O - Anyway
Not sure if this group released any other material, but this is a fantastic coldwave single. I heard it on Cityrocker's Myspace profile and sought out this song day and night for a week until I found it. Now it shall be played religiously when I am DJing at a club.

5. The Naked and the Dead - The Naked and the Dead
Classic NYC deathrock.

1. Dave Ball-In Strict Tempo...yeah, he's half of Soft Cell, but he doesn't get nearly the recognition Marc does.
2. Your Funeral/Jeri Rossi-a single each and then she's gone...ugh.
3. Sixth Comm...don't really know much about these guys, they may have a lot and I don't know it
4. Ubik-Surf BRILLIANT!
5. The Sisterhood-Gift yeah yeah whatever not obscure at all but HELL that's a great little album that people generally don't give the time of day

I think they were on the Criminal Damage label along with the likes of Ausgang, Twisted Nerve, Ghostriders, Anorexic Dread, etc. Also had a slot on the Backlash! compilation on said label.

I got their 'Purge An Urge' LP sitting in a box somewhere. If I recall properly, a bit more of a simple rhythm and less wavey sounding. The 'Anyway' 12" is much harder to find.

1. The Lautrec
80s girl-goth from Japan. Their own private label released the 'Ragdoll' 12" EP, Hellbird/Sorry 7", and I believe an 8" flexi that I'm still trying to track down. 'Ragdoll' is pretty dark post-punk sounding that recalls a bit of the softer side of The Veil. 'Hellbird' is louder and more rocking, but also a bit more repetitive. I think they also changed vocalists between releases here. Still kinda catchy though, has a way of getting stuck in your head.

2. Clockwork
80s Japanese gothy new wave band. Appeared on a couple of compilations. Catchy tunes with synthesizers and a violin. Something tells me they didn't put anything else out besides these tracks, which is a tragedy. The singing is pretty poor Engrish, but besides that, the music is kewl.

3. Still
80s Japanese girl-fronted new wave band. Really dark pop sounding in some places. Released the 'Real Time' 7" (minimal synth wave sounding) and the 'Pale Face' 12" EP (dark pop sounding), both in '85. 'Pale Face' came bundled with a single sided live flexi titled 'Orgel,' and they also had an appearance on one of those 'Rebel Street' series compilations.

4. L-Trans
80s Japanese gothy new wave band. Warped guitar effects, distorted vocals, abrasive synthesizers... Pretty weird, but it really works together. Put out the 'Hard Rocks' 12" EP and a couple of compilation appearances.

5. Haitokusha
80s Japanese goth band. Released a 3-song 7" record and that's about it. Kinda guitar-driven rock sound as I recall. It was in my "good" section for a reason!

Honorable mentions:
Barbara
Carnival Funs
RAP
Bohm
Gara
Geil
Mannequin Neurose
Kokushoku Elegy
Offmask OO
Sarasvati

All Japanese, all 80s. Whaddya know. *i*

I'd like to see some lists by guys like sonnehagel, curious guy, katz, and cityrocker (next time he can be arsed to read these boards again). I think we'd all be schooled pretty soundly.

Yeah, it's great! Impossible to find, though.

1. False Confession - S/T EP
It's like very dark, gothy nardcore. One of the best records I've ever heard.

2. Brain Eaters - No More Room in Hell demo (unreleased)
Great punky deathrock, still dark

3. Deformed - Sacrifice!!
I guess you could call it occult goth crust. From '83.

4. Tee Vee Pop - S/T EP
Monotonous, minimal post-punk.

5. Freshly - Air (Quoth She)
Originated from Freshly Riots, but went from punk to a more goth/deathrock inspired sound. I swear tou can hear a bit of Chritian Death on this LP.

The only really good under appreciated band I can think of is the Urinals.

First band I thought of when I read your post. I do have to admit that I love everything by them however my favorite stuff is there newer material with Julia Ghoulia like "party time at the funeral parlor".

Also, CCR never gets the props he deserves. You know Captian Cannibal Revival. :P

These aren't really that obscure but are more or less bands I try and shove down peoples throats first chance I get.

Film Noir from Greece. They released two albums with their first one sporting a female vocalist and having kind of a Cure Siouxsie feel to it.

Metro Decay, also from Greece, and come to think about it, I wish the entire Greek Post-Punk scene got more attention.

Los Monaguillosh from Spain. They put out two 7" and then called it quits. Those are probably two of my favorite records.

Paraf from Croatia/Ex-Yugoslavia. They are most known for being a punk band but their last album Zastave is really danceable New Wave/Post-Punk.

Psycho Therapy from Colombia. They play really good Post-Punk with female vocals. They released a demo a few years ago but haven’t done shit since (That I know of).
