It's just a solid, fun, spooky album which highlights all the things we love about DR.

++1
everyone who went totally metro in the last year hate them for just that reason, but i love it!

Christ I know.

"It's a stereotypical deathrock album that offers nothing new."

Shut the fuck up with that already! What did you expect from a band called "Cemetary Girlz"? I for one welcome a return to the basics when it is done so damn well.

Anyway I love this album. New FOF is also great, but I think I may like this one more.

Wow, really. Man, they've got some tough competition than. All music gave them 4.5 stars out of 5 in their review. That really surprised me. I can't wait to see them again.

Lots of good releases this year. I really feel like I'm going to have to isolate myself and listen to all of the nominated albums. Before, I would look at the polls and think the winner should be the only album I've heard.

The shuffle option on my IPOD has corrupted me I just listen to the same songs over and over and skip all the new stuff.

I'm not nominating these two cause I haven't actually listened to them yet. But, has anybody heard Legion Within or Kid Congo Power and the Pink Flamingos?

I think they both just came out with albums this year.

I know some of the folks in Legion Within and got myself a copy of their latest single, and it is pretty kewl. I think William broke his ankle during one of their recent shows. :(

Honestly I haven't even listened to their new album yet, but I am waiting for it to arrive in the mail. I love some of their newest tunes on their Myspace profile so I am excited to hear the new album.

I'm re-nominating Coranach by Cross Stitched Eyes (my earlier nominating post has mysteriously disappeared). I know Mark doesn't like them, but I do - they remind me a lot of Rudimentary Peni.

Oh yeah did anybody nominate Buring Image "Fantasma"

That album sucked, I was SO disappointed. They're one of my favorite old-school groups but the new one...sigh.

I'll admit the album wans't what I had expected. But, when I heard the some of the new songs performed live they really stuck out. I don't know I just felt more in tune with the rhythm after one of their shows. Now, I really enjoy the songs from the new album.

I'm om-nom-nominating Escarlatina Obsessiva's Pandemic for album of the year, 2009.

I haven't had a chance to listen yet but I liked what I heard on the myspace.

They're OK, but for me Plastique Noir IS the best Brazilian band I've listened so far. :D

About the nominated bands, I'm still kinda undecided... I've haven't listen to Blacklist yet and as for the rest... Squishy Squid, FOF and the Cemetary are OK, but although I absolutely loved Cemetary Girlz's demo, the album was not the same for me. How to say it, I think it is a little overproduced and it lost the harsh sound I felt for; the voice gets lost in there, too.
As for Joy Disaster, I only liked "The Light" song from that album.

I'll re-check for the albums I loved this year anyway, there actually ARE several very interesting in my humble opinion XD

Cheers!

Welcome Gabrielle!

See I think with "Smoke my Brain" the higher production values only add to the intensity of the album. Give it another shot in a few weeks.

I love Plastique, but I have to say the last four tracks off their debut album were duds. Still I really enjoyed their debut.

Blacklist is as James put it, 'faceless' rock. I don't like them at all really.

Gotta admit it, 2009 is a great year for DR.

Am I the only one who also feels Blacklist sounds a bit too "pretty" :?. "Flight of the Demoiselles" is too happy for me and the lyrics don't really get my attention.
