I'm way into YOU, Thom :3

Band: Azalia Snail
Release: Snailbait (1990)
Track(s): http://sharebee.com/448fc9c4
Reason: One of the best lo-fi/experimental artists of the early '90s.
Notes: Blogged her before but here's her first release. Psychedelic, fuzzed-out art-rock. Never made it as big as she should have.

Band: That Dog.
Releases: Totally Crushed Out
Track(s): Hes Kissing Christian | Never say Never | dl totally crushed out here
Reason: 90s as fuck, girl group vocal harmony crush pop about dudes kissing boys and teenage love with violins, floral dresses and doc martins.
Notes: bassist plays for Todd Rundgren now.

Band: Eyeless in Gaza
Release: Photographs as Memories (1981)
Song: Knives Replace Air
Reason: Eyeless in Gaza, and any of Martyn Bates's projects for that matter, are painfully overlooked :(
Notes: Stripped down acoustic guitar and synths. Angular and nearly serene but penetrated by Martyn Bates's mad ecstatic florid evocations and ululations. One of the most powerful (quasi) acoustic songs I've ever come across.

I have one Eyeless in Gaza album and I don't really like it. (Rust Red September)
Which one should I get / photographs as memories?

All their albums are reallllllly hit or miss and none are perfect but they do hoard some crazy perfect tracks. I think it'd be better for you to put your hand in mine and let me guide you through EIG's catalogue. Nestle into Caught in Flux first as its seemingly the most consistently interesting and good and if you're still interested, traipse onto Photographs as Memories and any other subsequent release.

@ Dorian White: Ok, well, I just realised that it's perhaps not very kind of me to immediately de-recommend a band. You're indeed right that an early 80s post-punk lover could pay attention to this band and that the record wouldn't be misplaced at all in any post-punk recordcollection (a collector's item, probably, as it's a rare one)
This makes me think of how far opinions about recommendations in this thread can go. I don't really have problems with de-recommending (unless if you've good reasons or new information to tell). Discussions, opinions about bands and recommendations are supported, but I don't want this thread to end up in just "ahhh why do you recommend this crap". It stays a thread based on own taste and so descriptions and recommendations of bands could differ a lot (like always)

Now with such 'rules' I don't know if me previous post is just hypocritical, haha. I guess I responded at the band because it's dutch post punk and I've a huge opinion about dutch post punk.

@ Ma non Troppo: About Jeunesse D' Ivoire. I think it's surprising how modern and dated music can sound in one song. I like it. Oh and the second band, I can't listen to it because songs are not available internationally (?)
@ Morne Libido: Closed session song sounds pretty great.

Thanks for the contributions so far :]

Does that mean we can de-recommend other people's songs?

All jokes aside, no offense was taken. It's fine to be blunt about your feelings toward something rather than beat around the bush.

Keep the recommendations coming!

I think this:

So, only if you see the urgency to give another recommendation or other information (if you know a song or album of that band what's better / a similar band what's better / etc)

Got it. A short one, but a happy one!

Band: Scudocrow (Italy)
Releases: s/t (1987)
Track(s): Why d'you want me, hero to nowhere - Apparently they have a myspace/fanspace
Reason: Darky italo disco wave stuff with really heavy drum tracks.
Notes: Considering their peers, a little uncharacteristic... to me. anyway. I can't put my finger on who else has similar drum tones, its a 90s guitar industrial band... can't pin the name down.

@ Ma non Troppo: Indeed some really nice drums in 'why do you want me'

Band: Art Fine (It)
Releases: Dark Silence (12"/1985)
Track(s): Dark Silence
Reason: It's DARK italo and it's awesome
Notes: Only 12" they released. Once got sold for only 500 dollars on Ebay.

Ok, that's it, I give up :x I just started a new blog, but got immediately fed up with it and really annoyed by my non-present writing talents. Whenever I find an interesting band or 7", forumsposts to bring them under attention will be the way from now on and recommending via blogs should be the ambition for someone else - I suppose.

Band: Ana Hausen (UK)
Releases: Professionals 7" 1981
Track(s): Tunnel Vision | Download both tracks here
Reason:Heavy instrumental reminds of The Cure's oppressing moments on Pornography(?) Great music.
Notes: A-side is a rather happy song, strangely enough.

Band: Crash & Britany

Reason: Female-fronted OG emo before emo turned to shit.
Notes: A combo of shoegaze, twee, and lo-fi rock, Crash & Britany's only other release, 1994's Kids Luv You was an underrated gem of the alt-indie scene. For fans of The Vaselines, Tiger Trap, and early Sleater-Kinney.

Really really good

Band: Frigidaire Tango
Releases: Vanity Fair 12" (1983)
Track(s): Vanity Fair | Check it ouuuuut
Reason: It's pretty cool, kinda darkish. Maybe gothique. MAYBE.
Notes: It's got a badass woodblock in Vanity Fair.

BRINGIN IT BACK
