Neubauten- for the really industrial stuff, just get the Strategies Against Architecture series, esp the first two, then you can go for Kollaps
Psychic TV-never really considered 'em industrial, just sweet dance tunes, maybe get Hex Sex if you don't have anything yet
Coil- oh my god Coil. Get anything you can find. The Ape Of Naples is my favorite even if it's not all that industrial. If yr feeling Nitzer Ebb then 'Scatology' is a good starting point
Mental Destruction - 'Straw' super bad ass rhythms from the world's finest 'Christian Industrial' band. I know that seems like it shouldn't be a selling point, but it actually fucking is. Militaristic and harsh as fuck.
Data Bank A -"Language Barrier" instrumental EBM like manna from God, awesome Bowie cover
Laibach - self titled and Rekapitulacija. Get these and ONLY these. Down with cheese!

For me, anything before Great White Death and I can't tell most of the songs apart. On Great White Death, each of the songs is immediately distinguishable in the first few seconds. Yeah, it's not as OMG INTENSE as the previous albums, but who gives a shit about intensity if all the songs are indistinguishable?

Yeah DOA is a more varied listening experience, and it is easier to start off with than SAR. But SAR is the more disturbing album that flows better than DOA—you feel something when listening to it. DOA is soft and can at times be tedious to listen to when the ambient pieces come on.

We can go back and forth, championing each album and pleading our cases as to why it's superior. But that's the beauty about TG's work, different albums suite different listeners. That's not to say DOA is terrible. DOA is a beautiful work that is essential listening for anyone remotely interested in real industrial. SAR also should be heard, but it is more likely to repulse the new listener.
