Nim Vind
The Fashion Of Fear CD
2007 Fiendforce

The debut full-length album from Vancouver's Nim Vind, The Fashion of Fear is the best non-horrorpunk horrorpunk album to come out in a long time. Released by Fiendforce records, Nim Vind has created a sound more sophisticated than the slew of guts-to-the-floor horrorpunk bands. Among the few bands to create a successful combination of pop, dark rock and deathrock camp, Nim Vind excels and has made something new and refined of the genre. Which made them perfect candidates for their 2006 tour of Europe with Zombina and the Skeletones who've also been pioneering this monster-pop style for years. From start to finish, The Fashion Of Fear makes an amazing album. Swells of guitars churn and roil from the darkest depths to the loftiest heights. The lyrics are gruffly poetic and complement the angstful, voyeuristic subject matter. Not only are there plenty of fast paced rockers on the album but several ballad-interludes to balance the atmosphere like 'The Bitter End'. 'Like A Guillotine' is one of the most vicious hits on the album. It begins with a death-comes-ripping guitar that rumbles fiercely through the song, partnered with bittersweet lyrics. "The Fashion Of Fear" is definitely one of the best albums of 2005, and it still stands as a favorite of mine. Their next album is in the halfway point, due to Nim touring as bass player with canuck cabaret rock band The Vincent Black Shadow.
