All Gone Dead
Fallen & Forgotten CD
2006 Strobelight Records
All Gone Dead emerged as the next move for former Tragic Black bassist Stitch, to move to England and to wife DJane Darlin Grave who resumed her bass talents for the band after years of latency. Since then the band has exploded with popularity and since become one of Strobelight records most demanded bands playing across Europe after barely a year in existence. The vocals are a cross between the stark and castigating niveK Ogre, the adolescent androgyny of Rozz Williams, and the putrid and snotty blaring of Johnny Rotten. A turbulent mix but commendable for first time at lead vocals. The lyrics are intense, lacerating, thinly-veiled socio-political-enviro commentary, equally mixed with emotional venting that gives them powerful urgency. The musical styles vary from gothic rock, punk, and even a touch of swing; all fused with a post-industrial inclination towards synths and purely programmed drums. Ghosts of Skinny Puppy keyboard can be gleaned on songs like 'Within But Not Before' and 'Vivid Still Beating'. The guitar sound, which has been thoroughly schooled at the Rikk Agnew institute of guitar, is a perfect example of cutting edge modern musical production. The album is packed with fast paced gothrock dance floor hits.
On 'Newspeak (Room 101)' the words are especially personal, depicting a reaction to a new world and an inner turmoil trying to be resolved. 'Just 80 Miles' brings us back to the American desert from whence Stitch came and exposes the toxic fields therein. 'Skritch'n' Skrill' appropriates grass-roots punk rock activism slogans, conjuring up incitement to riot among all of the politically active goth and batcave activists of the world. Or more accurately, it's the song with the most streetpunk credibility on the album, yet another of the conglomerated genres that "Fallen & Forgotten" manages to traverse. But don't let words like 'punk' frighten you away, songs like 'Orchids In Ruin' are on the softer side. 'Cedric Krane' brings in a swingin' punk rock anthem, replete with dancehall rhythm and horns, ironically paired with more calls to rebellion and fighting! Currently in the studio with a new album in the works, 2007 could be a promising year for All Gone Dead.
