Having evolved as far as punk should take any band, TSOL expands its horizons with Beneath the Shadows throwing away the hardcore punk direction, adding synthesizers and a softer edge, though by far gloomier than even "Dance with Me". Music like this can be described as Post Punk or Art Punk, and has even been described as a "rock opera". The album cover, and perhaps the music, is influenced by Stanley Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange".
